A bit of philosophy about art

Thu Sep 22, 2005, 2:28 PM
Had a bit of insight into artforms today and thought I might share it with everyone out there.

I have been doing a lot of reading lately. currently reading a novel called "Abarat" by one of my favourite authors Clive Barker. It is a dark, macabre fairytale for adults with some really interesting pictures. who said picture books were only for kids?

Anyway while reading this book I decided to look at his bio on the book's jacket. I have read a little about his life in a book of short biographies on horror writers. But this little bio in this book told me something I did not know about him. It described his household where he lives with his partner David Armstrong (a photographer) and their daughter Nicole. They also share their house with five dogs, sixty fish, nine rats, innumberavble wild geckoes, five cockatiels, an African gray parrot called smokey, and a yellow-headed amazon Parrot called Malingo.

Immediately I recognised the name Malingo as this is the name of one of the main characters in the book. But it was not until days later that another reference to his life took place. In the story a number of sailors are exploring a strange island and one of the sailors is being picked on for having an unusual household.

The sailor announces proudly he is in love with his partner an Oyster harvester called Jim and they have a menangery of animals. In this reference it is obvious that the author is describing his feelings and how at times he is treated like an outcast simply because he has an alternative lifestyle.

Art is so important guys and girls out there because whether you are an artist, photographer, poet or a writer like me, our artform is the way we can sometimes express ourselves to the world with no boundaries.

I think it is amazing that a place like Deviantart can bring together people from all different counties and lifestyles wthout any prejudice.

Well I better go. Hope everyone out there is well and would like people's thoughts on the power of art as an expression of our inner thoughts and loves.

Just felt like saying hi. Just working on some writing here in Oz. Have you read any of my work . Most people here are artists but I love watching all art forms. I particularly love Michief's raw poetry. Real from the heart. I think you are in Canada so hope life is going okay there. Bye now.

I have a question for people out there. If you tell someone how you feel about him/her is that person obligated to tell you how they feel about you? Is it common courtesy or is it up to the individual.

Thanks mischief. Have to come up with a decent avatar. Thinking of a wolf or something to go with the moon theme? What do you think?

Meh, whatever you like really...

Found my avatar. Always something that fascinated me, Lycanthropy. Like reading non-fiction on the legends of all these undead creatures. Anyway, if anyone comes to Sydney one day there is a really weird occult shop in Surry Hills with lots of good stuff.
